Export phytosanitary diagnosis and procedures for raw cashew nuts.
The challenge
A raw cashew nut may have to be treated against pests before being exported. In 2022, we diagnosed this system in three locations, for the Cotton and Cashew Council. Before export, raw cashew nuts are inspected and treated. The Cotton and Cashew Council wanted a diagnosis of the system and clear procedures for applicators.
How the assignment unfolded
Before being exported, raw cashew nuts may have to be treated against pests, and this treatment must be entrusted to qualified applicators. The Cotton and Cashew Council asked us to examine the entire system. Over ten months, we diagnosed the phytosanitary export system in Abidjan, San Pedro and Bouaké, then drafted two manuals: one for selecting applicators, the other for inspecting and treating raw cashew nuts. The assignment also assessed fumigation costs and specified the equipment required.
